Reichenau Island- UNESCO-world cultural heritage

In the year 2000 UNESCO has declared the Reichenau Island a world cultural heritage. 1000 years ago the Monastic Island was a very important religious, artistic, scientific and political center. Based on this history you find well-preserved churches, mural paintings as well as intellectual works. Today’s life is still strongly influenced by the past: as with island holidays, processions and the agricultural use. Get more information on the homepage of Stiftung Welterbe Klosterinsel Reichenau.

At the REICHENAU MUSEUM you may inform yourself about the prominent historic-cultural importance of the Reichenau. Particularly the herb garden of friar Walahfrid Strabo (abbot from 842-849) laid in 1991 should be given special attention.

The Catholic churches (apart from Saint Georg) are opened all year from 9 am to 5 pm (depending on season extended opening hours are possible). We are pleased to announce the current timetable of services on the scene.

The Protestant Church holds its main services on Sundays at 10 am and once a month also on Sunday evening.

Most of the cultural assets are just a few walking minutes away from the hotel mein inselglück
